Martín was born in Uruguay into a humble family. In 2013 he moved with his mother and brothers to Boston in search of a better life. He was a rugby star in high school, had several scholarship opportunities, but chose the University of Virginia because it offered the best aerospace engineering program in the country. He played for the college rugby team there for 3 years.

In 2018 he was part of the United States U20 Rugby team, in 2019 he turned down an offer from a Professional Rugby Team in Washington DC in order to follow his dream of being an Astronaut.

He is the first person in his family to graduate from college. Her mother is a huge fan of the show, but this year she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She wants to win Exatlon and use the money to create a scholarship in her mother's name to help struggling student-athletes.
